Client Case Study: BayTSP
"Jim's work helped us become the most recognized name in online
intellectual property protection. This visibility has made it easier for
our sales team to get in the door with potential customers and positioned
the company as the first to call for online IP protection."
- Mark Ishikawa, CEO, BayTSP
Challenge
BayTSP provides online intellectual property protection for the entertainment, software and publishing industries. The company had secured sporadic coverage in the past, but was looking to use public relations to raise its visibility as it pursued new customers.
Strategy
BayTSP collects tremendous amounts of data on file trading. As interest
in peer-to-peer (P2P) applications grew, I developed a monthly report sent
to reporters that included a "Top 10" list of pirated films and
other empirical data on the growing popularity of P2P technology around
the world. I also positioned the CEO as an industry expert who could provide
insight into the technologies and how they were being used.
Results
BayTSP has been featured in nearly every major high-tech, general news and business publication in the U.S., including the New York Times, Washington Post, Business Week, Wired as well as National Public Radio, ABC News, TechTV and Spiegel TV. The CEO has lectured on P2P technology, online copyright protection and Internet piracy at Harvard, Duke and Stanford universities, the California Bar Association, and at the respected TTI/Vanguard conference on Security and Privacy.
Moving forward, I am helping BayTSP increase its visibility in the law enforcement and counter-terrorism communities.
